'Sunset' replica of Great Aunt Vi's oil painting
This piece is a fibre based version of my Great Aunt Vi's sunset oil painting.
I was gifted the original oil painting quite a number of years ago. I love the tranquility and peace of the image and it has been a very relaxing and mindful process recreating it.
While I don't know the location of the painting it does resemble a number of places I have visited and has a strange familiarity to it.
Aunt Vi lived in Sheffield a while but before that lived in Bournmouth. She discovered painting in her 70s and did exhibit and sell some of her works until unfortunately she lost her sight. I wished I knew more of her story, and had the opportunity to see more of her paintings.
Original art work details:
Original artist - Violet Maunder
Exhibited - Staveley Art Society, Sheffield
Medium - oil
My fibre version is made using a range of carded fibres needlefelted onto 100% wool sheet base. Fibres have been hand blended in quite small amounts and gradually felted onto the base, trying to replicate the original paint strokes, gradually building up the artwork while being respectful of Aunt Vi's original composition.
