- FAQ | Laura Horsley Fibre
Frequently asked questions General Do you take commissions? Yes I do. You can contact me at laurahorsleyfibreart@gmail.com (laurahorsleyfibreart@gmail.com)with your request. Upon receipt of your request I will contact you to find out more about your wishes and expectations and send through terms and conditions for commissioning the project. Only upon agreement to the terms and conditions will the commission be accepted and commenced. Are there restrictions to what you can make? The Artist will not make any licensed or copyrighted item for sale on my website, craft fairs, commissions, or sale elsewhere. The Artist also reserves the right to decline commission requests without needing to give any explanation, however the Artist would likely provide some detail out of courtesy. How do I contact the Artist? You can contact the artist by emailing laurahorsleyfibreart@gmail.com (laurahorsleyfibreart@gmail.com) Do you make cat/dog/pet toys? No. While the wool items can be extremely attractive to cats and other pets, particularly makes where lanolin-rich core wool is used, I do not make items specifically for animals or pets and cannot recommend them for this purpose. One of the main concerns with giving felted items cat toys is that cats have tongues with reverse barbs on them, everything that sticks on those barbs goes on a one-way journey to the stomach. Ingesting wool can then cause intestinal obstruction or strangulation of the intestine which can be fatal for cats and other animals. Many of my makes not only contain fibres, but often include small parts, such as glass eyes and ribbon which can also cause problems if swallowed. While some people do choose to give their cats/pets felted toys, and there's lots of felted toys on the market, I do not encourage giving any of my creations to animals (or children). If you do have cats (or small children) please do supervise them when your items are on display, and wherever possible display them out of their reach. Do you make items for children? No. I will not make items specifically for children to be used as toys. I prefer to make ornamental items and art work. Children's toys need safety testing and this would take my work into a direction I would prefer not to explore at this time. Some people do request me to make small animals and items (e.g. for use in baby photography, or on children's bedroom mobiles) which I am willing to do as the items are not left with the baby other than to take a quick photograph and/or are not played with. Many of my items contain small parts, such as beads, glass eyes, or threads which could pose danger to small children such as choking hazards and problems if they were ingested. Therefore my items are not designed to be given to children (or pets) and children should be supervised at all times when in the vicinity of felted items.

- ABOUT | Laura Horsley Fibre
Laura Horsley, Fibre Artist I am a self-taught fibre artist who specialises in needlefelting, based in Teesside, North East England. I started exploring needlefelting as a hobby in 2021, although I have always been creative and had a dabble at other crafting techniques from a very young age. I started needlefelting as a way of gaining back some of my own identity when my son was moving into toddler-hood, needing a hobby that was easy to quickly pop away while I went to retrieve him from climbing up the walls (quite literally!). As he has been growing up, so too has my love of all things wool! I now sell my art work and creations, currently developing kits, and can deliver bespoke workshops. My family are very much used to woolly supply deliveries from the postman and the numerous 'work in progresses' around our home, with my needlefelting eloquently (yet strangely accurately) described by my husband as "stabbystab stuff", which also explains my Instagram profile name! I am inspired by nature, wildlife, and seasonal changes which hopefully comes through in my creations. I'm also passionate about supporting and promoting wellbeing, and sharing how crafting really can help to lift mood, process feelings and experiences, and the resulting pieces give a sense of achievement. Each one of my needlefelted creations is made using a range of barbed needles and fibres, repeatedly poking or 'stabby-stabbing' it into a 3D shape or onto a canvas. I typically use sheep wool in my creations, but have also incorporated other fibres such as alpaca, rose, cotton, bamboo, and silk. I also have started exploring the world of wet felting, combining it with needlefelting and embroidery, different materials, and even zippers to create unique art and gifts. Because each item is handmade, and fibre often has its own idea on how it wants to end up, no two items I make are ever identical, giving the recipient a truly unique handcrafted gift. I always check my suppliers to ensure the fibres I use are ethically sourced, ensuring all wool fibres are mulesing-free, and all dying complies with relevant standards and certification. If you are looking for a unique gift, or have a piece of art in mind I am open to commission requests, please contact me at laurahorsleyfibreart@gmail.com Please enjoy exploring my website, perhaps also follow my socials over on Instagram and Facebook, and reach out if you have any queries or would like to know more.

For items already created and ready to dispatch I aim to process orders by the end of the next working day, occasionally during busy periods this may take an extra day. Unfortunately I am not currently posting internationally. Return & Exchange Policy In the unlikely event that a parcel arrives damaged or faulty please contact me at laurahorsleyfibreart@gmail.com so that I can arrange a replacement, exchange, or refund for you. If you wish to return an item I will need to receive this to the address provided when arranging the return, within 28 days of receipt for a refund or exchange. This does not affect your statutory rights. As the goods are your responsibility until they reach me please ensure you safely package your return to prevent any damage to the items or packages. With the exception of faulty or damaged goods I am not responsible for the return postage and therefore advise that you keep proof of postage in case the item(s) does not arrive to me. If an item is returned outside of the 28 day time frame or is in a non re-saleable condition a voucher will be issued at the discretion of Laura Horsley Fibre Art. If you wish to cancel your order and return it to me, under the Consumer Contracts Regulations, you must let me know within 8 working days of receiving your items.
